In this project, we will be looking at the features of Video Game Magazines compared to other mediums and learning how to design our own Magazine.

Reviews in Magazines

Above is a benefit of having a review printed out in a magazine as the reader can see which reviews are on which page then they can find the review they’re interested in the most.

The two photos show a few reviews inside of an issue of Edge magazine. One review addresses a game developed by FromSoftware named bloodborne. The review focuses on comparing Bloodborne to FromSoftware’s successful series Dark Souls.

YouTube Reviews

I watched a YouTube Review of the game Bloodborne to see if the review from the magazine could be transcribed to a visual YouTube review. The first part of the review explains what the common challenges are that the player faces in the game. The reviewer also compares these challenges with what other similar games have to offer and uses a visual example to demonstrate what features are iconic to Bloodborne.

In part 2 the reviewer talks about the environments and design aspects of the game then assess’ how these work with the different game modes and lore hidden within the game.

A deck is the introductory piece of an article which is placed underneath the headline.

Grammarly Comment

To ensure my grammar is correct I installed the free versions of the Grammarly program onto my college user profile. Having the Chrome and Word Add-ins has proved very useful as the program catches all my grammatical errors on my website and in my word documents.

  • history of the game
  • little known facts
  • Jargon breakdown

Define By-Line

A line that names the author of the article.

Define Subhead

In Design

Below is evidence that I have learnt and understand the basic features of InDesign.

The following 9 examples below show me using different Character Styles to understand how they affect the end outcome of the layout. 5 pf the last images is me using the tracking values inside the character styles tab (tracking is another word for spacing, the space between the text characters).

Alignment is very important when designing a layout and you can do this by using the buttons on the top bar to align selected text in different ways.

Now I have started change=ing the colours of text and adding a stroke. This is very similar to some company fonts as the Capcom name is yellow text with a blue stroke.
