This Magazine article is a tutorial on the way artists can use one brush to paint an entire art piece.

  1. From the first look at these pages, the layout shows me the author is highly creative yet uses as much space to produce a functional order in which the reader can process the information contained within the article. The effect that this has on the reader is that the reader can understand the author clearly and can follow his process with ease.
  2. fonts – The fonts used in this article suit the background and the page structure as well as being easy to read. The use of Bold Headings and subheadings allows the reader to focus on the area they
  3. linguistics – this magazine does require specialist knowledge on the subject to fully understand the linguistics. Terms like composition and channels can be confusing to someone who isn’t an artist or doesn’t use a program like Photoshop so they would not fully understand this article.
  4. This magazine relies on the way information is delivered rather than the sensationalism of the contents.
  5. Unlike some articles, this one isn’t very anchored which means the reader is limited to how they can interpret its contents.
  6. The people who would subscribe to this magazine is artists and other creative producers looking to improve their skills.
  7. In particular, this magazine is distributed internationally to reach consumers in other countries.
  8. Prices can tell us a general idea of the demographics of the people buying this publication, for example, this magazine is priced at a £10 subscription meaning the customers most likely earn enough money to continue buying this magazine

Audience Feedback

What is a focus group?

A Focus Group is a wide selection of diverse people who have come together to test a product before it is released to the general public. Opinions expressed by the focal group can change one entire aspect of the product, for example, many film endings have been changed because of focal groups.

Panels

Before release, a video game will go through its ALPHA and BETA stages which is where the developers will give 2 versions of the game and allow a select panel of players to test the game and give important feedback.

The ALPHA stage of development is when the game has only been in development for a short while and probably has a large number of problems.

BETA, however, is the stage when the game is more or less completed and is only being sent to the audience panel then the developers can use their feedback to “fine tune” certain elements rather than change anything.

Audience Theory

  • Hypodermic needle model – More commonly known as the magic bullet theory is a communications model that suggests direct communication with the receiver taking in the information whole as a passive audience. This model is very limited as to how the media can affect an audience and as such is usually not used.
  • uses and gratifications theory – This theory approaches how audiences may actively seek out information from media. Unlike other theories which focus on how media affects the audience, the gratifications theory focuses on how the audience use the media.
  • reception study – Reception theory as it is more commonly known looks at the way audiences can interpret texts.
  • active and passive consumption – Active Audiences are people which engage with the media information they obtain, whereas a passive audience will accept the information that the media give them.

Movie Clips

In one class we researched how camera shots can affect the way viewers receive information. We watched 2 10 minute clips from movies and analyzed the different aspects they used and how they affected the viewer.
